CONTEXT
3D Printed Wall, is a project designed by Noumena and realized with the Delta WASP 3MT machine. It was showcased in the WASP exhibition stand, curated by Noumena, during the upcoming third edition of IN(3D)USTRY – From needs to Solutions, an international event promoting concrete solutions in Additive & Advanced Manufacturing, organized by Fira de Barcelona. It took place in Barcelona between the 16th and 18th of October 2018. The project’s intent is to provide a case study and underline the advantages of adopting different materials and additives in the 3d printing compound, (PLA pellet of TREED Filaments and CO2 Pure of PRIMLAB) in parallel the intention is to showcase the feasibility and scalability of the additive manufacturing process applied at the architectural scale.
PROJECT
Additive manufacturing allows designer to integrate design decision with material performances, giving the freedom of form in one side and the chance to produce unique pieces in the other. Each panel is at the same time unique and standardized, shortening the pipeline production in a single phase process where surface finishing and supporting structure are defined and solved at the same moment. Other advantage of the production technique consists in the consumption of only “good” material with no waste production. Material is used only where is needed, no scaffolds or molds are required, while the complex geometry can be reproduced rapidly and in a reliable way. We believe this facade system is capable of transmitting the potentiality of large scale 3D printing applied to the construction and architectural sectors.
